Heading 2
Lower Ruamahanga Valley Groundwater
Client: Ongaha Farms Limited & Wairarapa Water User Society Inc.
Project Overview
On behalf of Ongaha Farms Limited and the Wairarapa Water User Society Inc, this project investigated the degree of connection between the Q2-Q4 aquifer and the Ruamahanga River in the Lower Ruamahanga Valley. The work began with a comprehensive review of all available hydrogeological information.
Technical Solutions
To analyse the groundwater and surface water interaction, A MODFLOW and MT3D model was developed. This simulated both the physical interaction and the differences in water chemistry between the river and the brackish aquifer. A three dimensional geological model was also created to better understand the valley’s geological context.
Client
The project delivered crucial expert testimony and evidence for two separate legal and regulatory processes. This included providing Environment Court Evidence for the Ongaha Farm consent appeal and Evidence for a submission on a Proposed Regional Plan change.
