Milldale Ecological Offsetting

Fulton Hogan Land Development Ltd

Project Overview:

New wetlands were required to be created as mitigation for removal of pasture defined as a potential wetland in NES-FM.

Technical Solutions:

WWLA designed a series of shallow at-grade contour bunds using GIS. The bunds would act as small embankments detaining surface runoff and sub-soil drainage, creating a terraced topography similar to the visual aspect of rice paddies common in Southeast Asia.

Client:

The bund plans were supplied to the client, and the bunds have now been constructed from the poorly drained soils at the site, and native hydrophytic vegetation has been planted. Rainfall has filled the bunds, creating a sustained saturated environment emulating natural wetlands.
