Principal Planner
Ben re-joined WWLA as a Principal Planner in April 2026, having previously worked at WWLA from 2020 to 2022.
Ben has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, from Pepperdine University and a Master of Environmental Legal Studies from the University of Auckland.
Ben is a highly respected planning professional with over 18 years’ experience in natural resource planning and policy development. He specialises in water quality and water quantity management, with a strong track record in securing complex resource consents across a broad range of sectors. His expertise includes municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, stormwater and potable water infrastructure, aggregate extraction and manufacturing operations. Additionally, Ben has extensive experience with surface and groundwater abstractions, as well as large scale water storage and irrigation schemes.
Known for his pragmatic and solution focused approach, Ben provides trusted planning and policy advice to both public and private sector clients. He is an experienced expert witness, having presented evidence at council hearings and before the Environment Court and is a Full Member of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
Outside of work, Ben is a keen saltwater fisherman and a semi retired water polo player. When time allows, he enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors. He also takes great pride in supporting and watching his three children participate in their respective sports.
